Many of the people constructing Web3 feel that the standard web ecosystem has exploited users and their data. While it advantages quite a lot of corporations, data miners and even AI models, some see it as an exaggeration.
“Some of the issues with today's Web, which some Web3-focused people call Web 2.0, is its centralization,” says Tegan Kline, CEO and co-founder of Edge and nodes said on TechCrunch's Chain Reaction Podcast.
“A handful of enormous corporations own and control all the pieces we see online. They own our data and digital footprint and might remove us from the platform. Many need to keep our attention and monetize that focus,” Kline said. “It’s not the Internet we had high hopes for within the early days of the Internet.”
They and others are attempting to vary that through Web3 and AI integrations. “We are attempting to make the decentralized web a reality and provides the facility back to users.”
Edge & Node is an organization focused on constructing and supporting decentralized applications (dApps) and protocols. It is the primary supporting team The graph, a decentralized network that indexes, queries and organizes data. Dubbed the “Google of Web3,” it goals to prepare open blockchain data and make open data a public good.
The graph has “subgraphs” that are like open APIs that serve queries. Every time a user uses an application built on The Graph, the indexers within the background organize the information and supply the knowledge.
“Web3 continues to be under construction, we’re still working on constructing this decentralized web that’s censorship resistant. So the innovation is going on today and I consider that's where the Internet will lead, that this can be the subsequent evolution of the Internet. It’s a growing industry, not a shrinking one.”
The graph began in November laid out a roadmap for its “New Era” to plan how it could use its $50 million in revenue from last yr.
In easy terms, the goals included expanding data services to succeed in a bigger market, supporting developers, increasing network performance, and developing tools for data. This also includes plans to assist enable large language models (LLMs), that are one of the crucial popular methods for constructing AI chat programs because of OpenAI, Kline said.
“The only thing that basically matters about AI is that it’s all about data,” Kline said. “There is a saying: whoever rules the information rules the world. So it’s really necessary that data just isn’t owned and controlled by a single company, especially within the AI space.”
The Graph is working to present users the power to leverage data from its network and other blockchains to coach AIs with that content. “Since we launched The Graph, use cases and data needs have exploded,” said Kline. “There are so many various data needs and the Graph Network can be there to satisfy all of those needs in a decentralized way for entrepreneurs and builders within the ecosystem and the users of their applications and projects.”
And it will be significant for AI to be trained entirely on an open source basis, says Kline. “And should you have a look at even the open source AIs today, they’re open source in a way, but the information that they’re trained on just isn’t open source.”
As things stand today, the vast majority of AI just isn’t yet on the blockchain train, so to talk. “If you go to a standard AI conference, they don’t care,” Kline said. “I feel the blockchain space is a little bit more concerned with AI than AI is for the blockchain space.”
There must be a bit more acceptance within the AI community, but Kline expects the connection between AI and blockchain to evolve and alter over time. “By using latest business models and latest incentive structures which have emerged through tokens and token economies in addition to decentralized infrastructure, things are getting really interesting for AI.”
