Microsoft has hired Mustafa Suleyman and Karén Simonyan, co-founders of high-profile AI startup Inflection AI, and several other of their colleagues in considered one of the strangest deals because the Satya Nadella-led cloud giant continues its aggressive efforts to draw top talent.

Mustafa, whose official title at Microsoft is EVP and CEO of Microsoft AI, will report back to CEO Nadella.

As a part of the transition/situation, Inflection AI announced that it would host Inflection-2.5 on Microsoft Azure, which it said will help reach “creators in every single place.” It added: “We will make sure that it’s made available to other cloud hosting platforms within the near future. The API itself is just not available today, but will likely be ready to be used very soon.”
Microsoft seems to have been working on the brand new AI unit for a while. Nadella had offered to rent OpenAI co-founders Sam Altman and Greg Brockman after they temporarily left the startup in December.
Nadella said today that the corporate – and the world – is just in its second 12 months of moving to the AI platform and Microsoft must “ensure we now have the flexibility and capability to boldly innovate.”
