Adobe brings Firefly AI-powered generative removal to Lightroom

Adobe announced on Tuesday that it will be adding a generative removal feature to Lightroom. The GenAI feature is predicated on Firefly and permits you to seamlessly remove objects from photos. The feature will likely be available as early access starting Tuesday.

Adobe says the feature is as much as the duty no matter how complex the thing's background is. “Generative Remove is useful in editing even probably the most complicated backgrounds and environments,” the corporate says, “including removing stains on a patterned shirt, wrinkles on a tablecloth in food photography, unwanted reflections in water, and more.”

The Photoshop developer announced its foray into generative AI back in March 2023.

“Firefly is the following step in our AI journey – bringing together our recent 'gentech' models with many years of investment in imaging, typography, illustration and more to supply assets,” the corporate told TechCrunch on the time. “We will bring this value to our customers' workflows where content is created across Creative Cloud, Experience Cloud and Document Cloud.”

At launch, it offered the power to convert text into images and adapt images to different styles. In the past 14 months, Adobe has integrated Firefly into its video suite, used it to design vector graphics in Illustrator, and added a generative fill feature.

The company says it’s working closely with its photography community to enhance and expand the brand new removal tool.

Adobe also announced on Tuesday the generative availability of Lens Blur, which might be used to create bokeh-like effects in images to offer them more depth.
