Hey Google. Are you okay?
Google announced its AI Overview search feature last week, saying it’ll change the best way people seek for information on its platform.
Well, it did change things, but not in an excellent way. Google AI Overview told users that pythons were mammals, suggested they put glue on pizza, and made other mistakes.
In the space of a number of months, Google was caught faking demo videos for Gemini, Gemini was generating inaccurate woke images, and now AI Overview is suggesting people eat rocks.
It doesn’t look good.
Safety second?
OpenAI had an AI safety issue last week when key members of the Superalignment team jumped ship. This week, the OpenAI board formed a security committee to get the corporate back heading in the right direction.
When you hear why Sam Altman was fired last 12 months and now that he’s on this committee, it seems to me just like the wolf is watching over the sheep.
OpenAI says it’s training its latest frontier model with “next-level capabilities,” so let’s hope safety is more necessary than profit.

xAI raised one other $6 billion in a Series B funding round, giving it a $24 billion valuation. Musk made some interesting comments about what he plans to do with the cash.
Much of that cash will go toward the “Gigafactory of Computing,” which Musk plans to construct with 100,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs. NVIDIA's record revenue is up 18% from last quarter and shows no signs of slowing down.
