Perplexity goes beyond AI search and launches the publishing platform “Pages”

Even though Google continues to struggle with the introduction of AI Overviews, confusionwhich has developed an AI-native search experience from the bottom up, is gaining momentum with a concentrate on usage-oriented features.

Simplify knowledge sharing

When someone uses Perplexity or one other AI-powered tool for research purposes, the method normally revolves around a back-and-forth interaction with said tool.

You give an initial prompt, get a response, after which proceed the conversation with follow-up inquiries to learn as much as possible in regards to the topic at hand. Perplexity calls these knowledge-finding conversations “threads.”

Pages solve exactly this problem.

This feature allows users to remodel their research in threads into well-organized, impactful content tailored to any audience – beginners, experts, or anyone in between. All the user has to do is click the “Convert to Page” button at the highest of the conversation and the tool will summarize all the data into comprehensive content that’s engaging, visually appealing, and straightforward to grasp.

In VB's tests, the tool was in a position to curate articles from existing Perplexity threads in seconds.

But what stood out much more was that users can create pages from scratch. They just need to explain the research topic, select the target market, and the underlying models (which might be modified within the settings) will create an in depth article with a transparent title explaining the subject, subheadings, related media, and relevant citations to the data sources.

In addition, Perplexity also gives users full control over the generated pages. They can rearrange the order of sections, change the layout of the header image, or use AI to generate latest header and section images.

On the content page, users have the choice to insert latest sections by describing what they wish to add (text, media, or text with media), or edit existing sections by simply highlighting and describing what they need to alter, akin to whether or not they want to alter the language or tone of the section or make it more concise/detailed. They may even change the format of the sections, turning it right into a table or list if needed.

No possibility for manual editing

In most cases, the models produced the specified content (images or text), but we missed the power to manually edit the content.

AI can sometimes hallucinate and users should want to edit a bit or two so as to add clarification or make the content more relevant to the audience.

Once the format and content of the article are finalized, it may be published to Perplexity's open library of user-generated content and shared directly with the audience. The company didn’t share what number of pages were published within the beta, but given the rise of AI research and the necessity to share it, we expect users to adopt it quickly.

For example, students or teachers could use it to develop knowledge guides, travel agents could use it to create customized travel itineraries, and corporations could create knowledge documents for his or her employees to guide them on best practices.

The development further strengthens Perplexity's position within the AI ​​search space and higher positions the platform against GPT-4-based Microsoft Copilot and Google's Gemini. The startup previously announced an enterprise-focused plan with a concentrate on privacy and security, in addition to partnerships with Japan's SoftBank Corp. and Germany's Deutsche Telekom to expand its reach.
