Raspberry Pi chooses Hailo for AI on Raspberry Pi 5 hardware

Hailothe developer of edge processors for artificial intelligence (AI), today announced that the Raspberry Pi 5 will use its AI accelerators.

Hailo, based in Tel Aviv, Israel, said its processors will likely be a part of the Raspberry Pi's AI Kit, an AI add-on for the Raspberry Pi 5 homebrew computer. The partnership will enable each skilled and enthusiast developers to boost their projects and solutions in home automation, security, robotics and more with advanced AI capabilities.

“We are excited to support Raspberry Pi and its vibrant community of skilled
engineers and artistic makers with cutting-edge AI capabilities,” Hailo CEO Orr Danon said in an announcement. “Our partnership with the world's leading single-board computer provider will usher in a brand new era of computing, enhanced by our powerful AI processing capability.”

Raspberry Pi's AI Kit, designed for the newest Raspberry Pi 5, includes the newly announced Raspberry Pi M.2 HAT+ and the Hailo-8L M.2 AI acceleration module with as much as 13 TOPS inference performance.

This solution is fully integrated into the Raspberry Pi camera software stack and supports quite a few out-of-the-box AI applications through Hailo's robust software suite and Model Zoo.

“Our collaboration with Hailo enables Raspberry Pi's industrial customers to integrate AI into high-performance solutions which are extremely cost-effective and energy efficient. For enthusiasts, the AI Kit offers an accessible strategy to enhance their creative projects with AI,” said Eben Upton, CEO of Raspberry Pi, in an announcement. “Hailo's combination of high processing power and low power consumption makes it an incredibly attractive AI solution for professionals and enthusiasts alike.”

The Hailo-8L AI accelerator with 13 tera operations per second (TOPS) significantly outperforms all other edge processors. Because Hailo processors are suitable for each industrial and industrial use – and are already utilized by over 300 customers worldwide – scalability from prototype to mass production is straightforward.

The collaboration with Raspberry Pi is a vital milestone and reflects the maturity of Hailo's AI accelerators and Hailo's ability to serve a bigger audience. To support the growing community of Hailo developers in addition to latest Raspberry Pi users, Hailo is launching a web based developer community with tutorials, FAQs and other resources to encourage innovation amongst creators and developers.

Registered members have the chance to collaborate with a team of Hailo experts and network with one another to share code, experiences, resources, knowledge and more.

“Our latest online community will function a collaborative environment for AI enthusiasts to share their experiences and discuss latest ways to innovate,” said Danon. “We fully expect that the launch of Raspberry Pi's AI-enabled board will pave a brand new path for innovation – and we stay up for working with manufacturers to support them of their experiments and use of Hailo's AI capabilities.”

The Raspberry Pi AI Kit will likely be demonstrated at Embedded World China from June 12 to 14 and at Maker Faire Hannover from August 17 to 18 on the Raspberry Pi booth 3A-138.
