More than 90 nations, including the United States and China, are meeting for a two-day summit in Seoul to develop a plan for using artificial intelligence within the military.
As Reuters reports, participants wish to set minimum guardrails and propose principles for “responsible” AI use that’s consistent with NATO principles.
The summit is the second such event, following a gathering in Amsterdam in 2023 where countries committed to a “call to motion” on using military AI. The issue has taken on latest urgency as countries like Ukraine zeal Use AI-controlled drones and other autonomous weapons.
Some countries have shown their willingness to contemplate international limits on AI that might cause harm. Last week, the US, UK and EU signed the world's first international AI treaty that focuses on defending the human rights of individuals affected by AI.
