AI spams applications. Jason Koebler of 404 Media writes a few one that claimed to have used a free tool, AI Hawk, to use to 17 jobs in an hour – and only stopped when he reached 2,843.
The tool mechanically captured the person's biography, created resumes, wrote customized cover letters, and checked all of the obligatory (and literal) boxes before submitting paperwork on their behalf.
AI Hawk is considered one of many AI application tools in the marketplace — and so they contribute to a bizarre loop, Koebler writes, through which people have essentially been faraway from the applying and hiring process. More and more firms are using AI software to screen and even interview candidates. In fact, in a 2023 survey, 42% of firms admitted to using AI screening tools.
As Koebler writes, the impact on candidates who fill out applications the old-fashioned way is just not yet clear.
