Following the instance of X, Threads is testing AI-powered summaries of trending topics

While the Twitter-like social network Bluesky has seen a big increase in user numbers this month, Meta's own X competitor Threads has been rapidly expanding its platform. On Friday, Instagram boss Adam Mosseri announced that Threads will begin testing AI-powered summaries of what’s being discussed on the platform within the app's Trending Now section within the US

The latest addition sounds just like X's Stories feature, which uses Elon Musk's AI chatbot Grok to summarize trending topics within the social network's Explore section.

Threads may even test an expanded set of trending topics, the corporate said. Additionally, users can now search inside a selected date range and seek for posts from a single account.

In a post on Threads, Mosseri said the additions are “long overdue improvements to Search and Trending Now on Threads.”

Meta acted quickly to update threads at a time when many X users are moving to Bluesky, which has now surpassed 20 million users. The platform saw a rise in user numbers following the US presidential election

After complaints from users As for Threads' algorithm, the platform is now taking feedback because it rolled out changes this week to point out more content from people you follow within the app's algorithmic feed.

Earlier this week, the social network introduced custom feeds to permit Threads users to curate feeds around specific topics or specific user profiles. The tool allows Threads to compete with Bluesky's own features, which permit users to create their very own algorithms, feeds and lists.

It's price noting that Threads' user base continues to be much larger than Bluesky's, with greater than 275 million monthly lively users. However, data from market research firm Similarweb shows that Bluesky is on par with Threads when it comes to each day lively users. The company believes that if the social network can maintain its current growth rate, it could eventually meet up with Threads.
