Uber is expanding its fleet of gig employees and making a latest category: AI annotation and data labeling.
The ride-hailing company has began hiring contractors for a brand new AI and data labeling division called Scaled Solutions. These employees perform projects for Uber's internal business units According to Bloomberg, in addition they supply external customers, including self-driving vehicle company Aurora Innovation and video game developer Niantic.
According to Bloomberg, Uber has began recruiting contractors in countries akin to the United States, Canada and India.
Uber's entry into data labeling comes at a time when that market is getting hotter because of the rise of AI. For example, Scale AI is one company within the industry that’s seeing increased demand. The company raised a $1 billion round earlier this 12 months at a valuation of $13.8 billion, after previously raising just $600 million in its eight-year history.
