Liquid AI, an AI startup co-founded by robotics luminary Daniela Rus, has raised $250 million in a Series A led by AMD. Per According to Bloomberg, the round values Liquid AI at over $2 billion.
Liquid AI goals to develop general-purpose AI systems based on a comparatively latest variety of AI models called liquid neural networks. Liquid neural networks are made up of “neurons” controlled by equations that predict the behavior of every individual neuron over time. The “liquid” bit within the term “liquid neural networks” refers to the pliability of the architecture; Inspired by the “brains” of roundworms, liquid neural networks aren’t only much smaller than traditional AI models, but additionally require far less computing power to operate.
Liquid AI goals to develop customized liquid neural networks for applications reminiscent of e-commerce, consumer electronics and biotechnology. As a part of AMD's investment, Liquid AI says it can work with the chipmaker to optimize its models for AMD's GPUs, CPUs and AI accelerators.
