Nvidia completes acquisition of AI infrastructure startup Run:ai

Nvidia has accomplished the acquisition of Run:ai, an Israeli startup that helps manage and optimize AI hardware infrastructure.

As a part of the merger, Run:ai announced that its software, which currently only works with Nvidia products, will likely be open source, meaning Nvidia competitors like AMD and Intel will give you the chance to adapt it to their hardware.

“We are committed to constructing on previous successes, expanding our talented team and expanding our product and market reach,” says Run:ai told Bloomberg in a press release. “Open-sourcing the software will allow it to expand its availability across your complete AI ecosystem.”

Nvidia announced its intention to amass Run:ai in April. At the time, sources told TechCrunch that the value was $700 million. But the deal bumped into regulatory hurdles. The European Commission and the U.S. Justice Department have launched separate investigations into whether Nvidia's purchase would harm competition.

The European Commission approved the deal in December.
