Nintendos Switch 2 -Start takes place tomorrow evening, and Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, a vital supplier for the hybrid console. sang the praise the machine and its important processor today.
“For all of us at Nvidia, we now have worked with Nintendo for greater than a decade, which needs to be brought together by the jointly used technology and that it’s value worthwhile to be value it,” said Huang. “I still remember the day when Iwata San shared his dream with us.”
It touches that Huang, whose company has passed the AI revolution to great altitude, is paying homage to Nvidia's roots in the sport.
Huang said Satoru Iwata, the previous CEO of Nintendo, who died of cancer, desired to create something that nobody had seen before, a console that was powerful for large, cinematic games, but sufficiently small to take somewhere.
“It sounded inconceivable, but this vision became the unique Nintendo Switch. We lost Iwata San before the beginning, but his clarity, its purpose – it still inspires our work,” said Huang. “We poured all the things into this method daily. The Nintendo Switch has taken over over 500 years of engineering at Nvidia. We have covered your complete stack, the chip architecture, the operating system, the APIs and the sport engines in order that magic could travel with them.”
Huang said the outcomes speak for themselves. Sold over 150 million consoles. It was a world platform that brought families together, enabled indie creators and redefined what could possibly be a console.
“And now a daring latest chapter begins to create a brand new console that continues to supply the unique vision to create it, in order that we needed to reinvent all the things,” said Huang about Switch 2. “The chip in Nintendo Switch 2 is different from all the things we now have built beforehand.”
The Nintendo Switch 2 has a custom NVIDIA processor, the T239, with an ampere-based GPU. It has 1,536 Cuda cores, runs at 1 GHz (docked) and 561 MHz (mobile) with a storage interface of 128-bit LPDDR5. The GPU can deliver 3.07 teraflops in docked mode and 1.71 teraflops in portable use.
The system CPU has eight ARM Cortex-A78C cores, 12 GB LPDDR5X (128-bit interface), memory bandwidth of 102 GB/S (docked), 68 GB/S (mobile) and storage of 256 GB UFS 3.1. It has RT cores, tensor core for AI-controlled improvements, DLSS support and 4K games in TV mode.
He said that it brings several breakthroughs together: probably the most advanced graphic of all time in a mobile device, complete hardware radiation tracking, a high dynamic area for lighter highlights and deeper shadows and an architecture, the reverse compatibility, dedicated AI processors to sharpen animations and the development of the gameplay in real time and very low power.
“We optimize the semiconductor process technology for prime performance in a handheld device in order that we will go wherever they go,” he said. “This chip is a technical miracle. It delivers performance, intelligence and wonder within the palm of your switch 2 is greater than a brand new console. It is a brand new chapter that’s worthy of the vision of Iwata San.”
He added: “For our friends in Nintendo, congratulations, we honored it to be with you on this trip. And for everybody who loves games, let's start fun. This is a proud moment for all of us at Nvidia.”
