Humanitarian AI in motion: Joel Myhre about radical integration, open data and global crisis response

With many years of experience with the interface of technology and humanitarian aid, Myhre uses the transformative role of AI in coping with global crises resembling climate change, conflict and public health. In this conversation, he shares his vision for more integrative, more transparent AI future, which is characterised by open data, global cooperation and equity-first innovation.

What is your convincing dream scenario for AI – a breakthrough that may fundamentally improve life at a worldwide level?

I actually have worked with technology and humanitarian response for over 20 years and have been lucky enough to participate in WSI events previously seven years. As I’m blissful, this can be a critical time by which AI innovations may also help to counter the big challenges of climate change and the humanitarian response! My dream scenario is the humanitarian AI with integrative and fair governance, transparency and algorithmic audits, open data to enable local first aid and the inclusion with science, industry, governments and the United Nations to make use of the AI to rationalize the response efforts.

What is a current project or a breakthrough that you simply are particularly pleased with – and what sort of effects, what effects it can have in the true world?

Recently it was an honor for me to work together the Danish refugee council in Copenhagen on the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the United Nations and the countless non -profit organizations with our partners, the Open -Source data, artificial intelligence data solutions for humanitarian evaluation. This project had a significant influence for over a decade, but was questioned by the recent global dynamics that affected humanitarian aid. For this reason, WSAI and intelligent health events are so vital as a way to function a worldwide venue for innovations and to work for a fairer and healthier planet.

What is an application for AI that you simply consider that more people should know – something positive that flies under the radar?

In my current incarnation, I’m lucky enough to work with the state of California as a way to work together the environmental protection and the safety of all consumers, employees and geospatial data and artificial intelligence as a way to rationalize and focus technology solutions and enable public politics and public health for everybody.

If you’ve gotten to decide on a nightmare scenario that keeps you awake at night – whether realistic or speculative – what wouldn’t it be and which warning signs should we have a look at today?

A big a part of the most important nightmare scenario, which we were concerned a couple of decade ago, got here with robot war and automatic weapons of mass destruction in lots of humanitarian environments. For this reason, I’m proud to work with Inspired Minds and WSAI, with events that go far beyond technological meetings, and all the time concentrate on achieving something, achieving justice and promoting human rights for everybody.

Who or what do you think that has the strength to forestall your nightmare scenario above?

In order to forestall this nightmare scenario, it can need a worldwide village for technology innovators in forum world wide, which is organized by WSAI and partners of the United Nations, etc. With a streamlined governance, transparent algorithms, open data and radical inclusion and localization, we are able to work together to avoid these stuffy options.

What are we not talking about within the AI discussion today – something that you simply consider that it may very well be very vital in five years?

Just like open source software and open data multipliers for governments, non -profit organizations and humanitarians, the guarantee of diversity, justice and inclusion in your complete ecosystem for artificial intelligence from Silicon Valley to Geneva and beyond is vital if we’re blissful for five years.

If you look ahead for 10 years, what do you think that might be the most important change in our every day life?

With a view of 10 years, it goes without saying that artificial intelligence influences and changes almost every aspect of life on earth. It is our task and the imperative for vital meetings resembling WSAI and intelligent health in all regions that serve worldwide as vital forums for discussions, innovations, challenges, misunderstandings and the promotion of radical inclusion, diversity and justice.
