Zoom founder and CEO Eric Yuan believes AI assistants will finally allow us to shorten our workweek. Speaking on stage on the TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 conference on Monday, Yuan discussed the introduction of AI in its video conferencing product, which incorporates a “digital twin” feature where an AI avatar can speak for you.
Yuan began using his AI avatar in a conference call with investors this yr, demonstrating the technology's potential and skill to push the “boundaries of communication,” he said.
At Disrupt, the CEO emphasized that he spends plenty of time talking about AI and the best products to bring to market.
When asked what he’s investing in, he replied: “AI, AI and AI.” The technology is the topic of hour-long strategy meetings as Zoom believes in its potential to remodel work.
Yuan also identified that there are way more use cases for AI companions beyond just video conferencing proxies. He offered a possible future scenario by which two business leaders negotiated a contract over Zoom.
Instead of long phone calls, they might first send their digital twins to work on the plan together, Yuan said.
He also talked about how AI will help with email, reviewing your messages for you and helping you work out what's vital and desires a response.
In addition, Yuan believes that AI could improve Zoom's broader solution offering, which also includes online solutions Whiteboard And collaborative documents.
“Today, I actually have to manually concentrate on all these products to do my job. Eventually, AI will help,” Yuan said.
“It means we don't need to work five days per week anymore, right? … Five years prematurely, three days or 4 days (per week). That's a goal,” he said.
