TikTok now helps you to select how much AI-generated content you would like to see

TikTok, an app that was once just a spot for user-generated content, is start a brand new setting that enables users to decide on how much AI-generated content they wish to see of their For You feed. The company can be introducing more advanced labeling technologies for AI-generated content.

The recent AIGC (AI-Generated Content) controls are rolling out to the app's “Manage Topics” tool, which allows users to decide on what they wish to see on TikTok.

“Manage Topics already allows people to customize how often they see content related to over 10 categories equivalent to dance, sports and foods and drinks,” TikTok explained in an announcement Blog post. “Like these controls, the AIGC setting is meant to assist people customize the varied content of their feed, moderately than completely removing or replacing content in feeds.”

The move comes as corporations like OpenAI and Meta are betting on pure AI feeds. In September, Meta released Vibes, a brand new feed for sharing and creating short, AI-generated videos. Just a few days after launching Meta, OpenAI released Sora, a social media platform for creating and sharing AI-generated videos.

Since Sora's launch, realistic, AI-generated videos have been posted on TikTok. Additionally, many TikTok users use AI to create visuals for posts on other topics, equivalent to: Story or Celebrities.

TikTok says that with recent AI-generated content controls, users who wish to see less of this kind of content can now reduce the speed, while those that enjoy it may opt to see more of it.

You can access the brand new feature by choosing “Content Settings” in your Settings after which clicking the “Manage Topics” option. You can then move the slider for various topics, including AI-generated content, to regulate how often you would like to see that sort of content in your For You feed or not.

According to TikTok, the change can be rolled out in the approaching weeks.

To improve its ability to label AI-generated content, TikTok is now testing a technology called “invisible watermarking.”

TikTok already requires users to tag realistic AI-generated content and uses a cross-industry technology called Content credentials out of C2PAwhich embeds metadata into content that informs it and other platforms when something is AI-generated. However, TikTok notes that these labels will be removed if content is re-uploaded or edited on other platforms.

With the brand new “invisible watermarks,” TikTok adds one other layer of security through the use of a watermark that only it may read. This means it would be harder for others to remove it.

TikTok will begin adding invisible watermarks to AI-generated content created using TikTok tools like AI Editor Pro. They will even be added to content uploaded using C2PA's content credentials. The company says these watermarks will help label content more reliably. TikTok notes that it would proceed to read C2PA's content credentials and add them to AI-generated content created on its platform.

In conjunction with these efforts, TikTok also announced the launch of a $2 million AI Skills Fund geared toward experts just like the nonprofit organization Girls who programto create content that educates people about AI knowledge and safety.
