In a case some are calling groundbreaking, a British man who used AI to convert unusual images of kids into sexual abuse images has been sentenced to 18 years in prison.
Hugh Nelson, a 27-year-old from Bolton, used the app Daz 3D to create 3D “characters” from innocent photos of kids. In some cases, people commissioned the pictures, the Guardian said Reportsand provided photos of kids that they had contact with in real life.
Nelson sold the commissioned child sexual abuse images on online forums, earning about ÂŁ5,000 (about $6,494) inside 18 months. He was caught after telling an undercover officer that he was demanding 80 kilos (about $103) to create a brand new character based on the pictures provided.
Nelson was later found guilty of encouraging the rape of a toddler under 13, attempting to incite a boy under 16 to commit a sexual act, distributing and making indecent images and possessing prohibited images.
