The original idea for the World Wide Web emerged in a flurry of scientific thought toward the tip of World War II. It began with a hypothetical machine called “Memex,” which Vannevar Bush, head of the U.S. Office of Scientific Research and Development, described in an article titled “ As we would thinkpublished within the Atlantic Monthly in 1945.
The Memex would help us access all of the knowledge immediately and from our desk. It had a searchable index, and documents were linked together by the “trace” that users created once they linked one document to a different. Bush imagined the Memex using microfiche and photography, but conceptually it was almost the trendy Internet.

However, all of the laws that created the Internet are based on links. The social contract is that a search engine can crawl your website or a social media company can host your words or images so long as they provide credit to you, the one who created them (or discredit in the event you give bad advice) . .
