Fortanixa number one provider of data-first cybersecurity solutions, last week quietly announced the overall availability of Key insights, a brand new product that permits organizations to discover, assess and remediate data risks in multi-cloud environments. The launch comes as organizations are increasingly struggling to keep up a consistent cryptographic security posture given the rapid adoption of cloud services and the looming threat of quantum computing.
Key Insight fills a critical gap out there by providing visibility into a corporation's encryption assets and their relationships to data services. “Basically, our customers pushed us to develop Key Insight,” said Anand Kashyap, CEO and founding father of Fortanix, in an interview with VentureBeat. “Security teams are challenged to make sure consistent cryptographic security posture across a wide range of tools and interfaces. We confirmed that a discovery assessment tool would really meet their data security needs in the case of protecting data through encryption.”
The product differs from other Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) and Cloud Security Posture Management (CSPM) solutions in that it focuses on encryption, keys and their use to guard data. “What sets Fortanix apart is its concentrate on encryption, keys and their use to guard data. We also provide relief by leveraging our existing platform and not only the visibility of what CSPM/DSPM tools do,” Kashyap explained.
Preparing for the post-quantum computing era
Key Insight also helps organizations prepare for the post-quantum computing era by creating a list of keys, algorithms, applications and data services that use those keys. “The emergence of quantum computers will likely be a Y2K moment for cryptography as commonly used crypto algorithms similar to RSA and ECDSA are broken and everybody may have to modify to using quantum-safe algorithms, so-called PQC algorithms,” Kashyap said.
Initial customer feedback has been positive, with an information security director at a big utility company stating, “This is admittedly, indisputably, what we're going to want in the longer term.” And once I say future, it's just a number of months from now.”
Fortanix will present Key Insight on the RSA Conference 2024, which takes place May 6-9 on the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Visitors can visit booth #1261 within the South Expo Hall to see product demonstrations and learn more about how it might probably help firms address their cryptographic security risks. The company also offers hourly presentations from partners similar to Nvidia, GuidePoint, BigID, Keyfactor, Veeam, Cohesity and AppViewX on how they work with Fortanix to resolve customer problems.
Closing a critical gap out there
Founded in 2016, Fortanix is a frontrunner in data-first cybersecurity and confidential computing. The company has raised over $90 million in funding from investors including Intel Capital, Foundation Capital and Neotribe Ventures. With the launch of Key Insight, Fortanix is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for solutions that help organizations manage their cryptographic security posture and prepare for the post-quantum computing era.
As organizations proceed to grapple with the challenges of securing data in hybrid, multicloud environments, products like Key Insight will change into increasingly vital. “Our vision of knowledge security is that data must be protected at any time, in anywhere, and may only be accessible to the best user or application,” said Kashyap. “Key Insight fills this gap by scanning the organization’s environment to discover unprotected services and using non-compliant encryption services.”
