Firefox now helps you to select your selected AI chatbot in its nightly builds

As browsers integrate increasingly more AI features into their products, Mozilla wants to provide users some selection. The company announced on Tuesday that it’s launching an opt-in experiment that gives access to numerous AI services in Nightly, the experimental version of Firefox.

The company plans to enhance the experience before incorporating it into beta and release versions of Firefox.

Users who’ve signed up can select their preferred AI service. Mozilla's initial offerings include ChatGPT, Google Gemini, HuggingChat, and Le Chat Mistral. The company plans so as to add more AI services.

“Providing selection in AI services is essential for a lot of reasons,” wrote Ian Carmichael, senior vp at Firefox, in a blog entry“First, you need to have the opportunity to decide on the service that works best for you and never be locked right into a single provider. Second, all of those models are still evolving and improving. None is ideal and every has its own strengths and weaknesses. Providing options gives people the chance to experiment with many services to seek out the one which is most helpful in solving their problem.”

After users select a preferred AI service, they’ll ask the chatbot to summarize information on an online page, simplify the language, or test their knowledge of the data.

The idea behind the brand new offer is that users can check out different chatbots and select the one they like best. Firefox points out that the offer is optional, so that you don't must select one.

The launch of the brand new experience comes as corporations like Google and Microsoft have added AI chatbots to their browsers. Browser startups like Opera and DuckDuckGo have also added AI chatbots that may also help users do things like summarize web pages and ask questions.
