Meta stops training its generative AI tools in Brazil

Meta has suspended using its AI assistant after Brazil's data protection agency (ANPD) banned the corporate from training its AI models with personal data of Brazilians. The move puts the brakes on Facebook's try to expand its AI products in Brazil, a market of greater than 200 million people.

As quoted In the official document, the Brazilian authority explained that the safety measure was resulting from “the immediate risk of significant harm and irreparable or difficult to repair damage to the elemental rights of the guardians”.

In addition, the ANPD has established a every day positive of fifty,000 reais for non-compliance.

A Meta spokesperson confirmed the choice in a press release to TechCrunch, saying: “We have decided to suspend the GenAI features previously available in Brazil while we work with the ANPD to reply their questions on GenAI.”

Meta has been training its AI with user-generated content within the US and other markets for several years. However, in May, Meta needed to pause plans to coach its AI models in Europe and the UK after the Irish Data Protection Commission rejected those plans.
