Apple's watchOS is getting some AI-powered upgrades, the corporate announced Monday at its Apple Event 2024. Most of those were unveiled at the corporate's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, but Apple shed a little bit more light on the matter during its keynote this morning.
The Translate app is offered for the newest version of watchOS, watchOS 11. Like other platforms, Translate uses AI for speech recognition and translation in a variety of different languages.
On Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Series 10, and Apple Watch Ultra, Translate can work even and not using a phone connection. Apple says these are the one Apple Watch models with enough storage to download the obligatory language models; you’ll be able to download as much as 20 models directly.
AI can also be improving Smart Stack, the watchOS feature that uses contextual information to display relevant widgets. Smart Stack will soon routinely add recent widgets “while you need them,” Apple says – presumably based on aspects just like the time of day and your location.
A final AI-powered improvement is the brand new Photos watch face, which uses machine learning to discover and curate photos out of your library.
