All major providers have been searching for ways to make use of AI to assist customers develop creative content. On Tuesday, Google unveiled a brand new AI-powered video creation tool called Google Vids on the Google Cloud Next customer conference in Las Vegas. The tool will turn into a part of the Google Workspace productivity suite upon release.
“I would like to share something really completely recent. At Google Cloud Next, we're introducing Google Vids, a brand-new, AI-powered video creation app for work,” said Aparna Pappu, VP & GM at Google Workspace, introducing the tool.

The idea is to offer a video creation tool alongside other workspace tools like Docs and Sheets, offering the same ability to create and collaborate within the browser, except on this case on videos. “This is your video editing, writing and production assistant multi functional,” said Pappu. “We help transform the assets you have already got – whether marketing copy or images or whatever else is in your drive – right into a compelling video.”
Like other Google Workspace tools, you may collaborate with colleagues in real time within the browser. “There isn’t any must send files forwards and backwards via email. You and your team can work on the story concurrently, with the identical access controls and security we offer across all the workspace,” she said.

Examples of the forms of videos people create with Google Vids include product presentations, training content, or celebratory team videos. Like most generative AI tools, Google Vids starts with a prompt. You enter an outline of what you wish the video to appear to be. You can then access files in your Google Drive or use stock content provided by Google and the AI will get to work storyboarding the video based in your ideas.
You can then rearrange different parts of the video, add transitions, select a template and insert an audio track where you record the sound, or add a script and a preset voice will read it out. Once you're completely satisfied, you may create the video. As with any Google Workspace tool, colleagues can comment or make changes on the go.
Google Vids is currently in limited testing. It shall be rolled out to additional testers in Google Labs in June and can eventually be available to customers with Gemini for Workspace subscriptions.
